A Pallas’s Warbler had been seen by Chris Batty (Lancashire bird finder extraordinaire) on Tuesday, so, as both myself and Steve Brown had not seen this species in Lancashire before, we decided that, if the bird stayed until Friday after work, that we would “go for it”. Well it did stay and we set off at 1:20pm and apart from a difficult area of roadworks we reached Knott End by 2:20pm. Chris Batty was outside his house and ushered us into his garden were a couple of birders had been enjoying views of this little “sprite”. After about 10 minutes the bird showed, near a sycamore tree that was shedding its leaves and gave brief but often views. A few birders and photographers came and went but, Steve Brown could not get a picture of the bird, due to its flightyness, and after an hour of trying we headed for home. The bird finally departed on Saturday but, by then had entertained a lot of birders and the local residents!
